Solutions
A programme, not a trade.
Single transactions are easy to arrange and hard to defend. What survives an audit, a board review and a bad year is a written policy, executed in layers, reported consistently.
01 · Hedging programmes
Remove the single-decision risk.
The most common failure we see is not a bad hedge. It is one decision, taken once a year, by whoever happens to be responsible — with no policy to point back to when it goes against you.
-
Budget rate and coverage ladder
Minimum and maximum coverage per forward year, so the position is always inside an agreed band regardless of where the market goes.
-
Execution calendar
Scheduled layering against the ladder, with defined discretion around it. Timing becomes a process, not a judgement call made under pressure.
-
Mandate and authority
Who may instruct, up to what size, in which instruments, and what requires escalation. Short enough that people actually read it.
-
Annual review
The policy is re-tested each year against the regulation as it then stands, and against what the business has actually done since.
An illustrative coverage ladder
Target coverage by forward compliance year.
- Current year90–100%
- Year + 160–80%
- Year + 230–50%
- Year + 30–25%
Bands, not points. The gap between minimum and maximum is where discretion lives — and it is bounded in writing before anyone needs it.
02 · Structured & OTC
Shaped to your profile, not to a standard lot.
Exchange contracts are built for liquidity, not for your delivery schedule. Where the standard instrument does not fit the exposure, we structure one that does.
Swaps
Fix a floating exposure against an agreed index and tenor, with cash settlement aligned to the period in which the cost is actually incurred.
Collars and corridors
Cap the downside and sell away part of the upside to reduce or remove premium — the structure behind the corridor on our home page.
Caps and options
Pay a known premium for protection above a strike while keeping the benefit if prices fall. Useful where the budget is fixed but volumes are not.
Index-linked structures
Settlement referenced to a published index or to a blended basket, where a single benchmark does not represent your real cost.
Volume flexibility
Swing and tolerance features for clients whose production or import volumes are genuinely uncertain at the time of hedging.
Accounting-aware design
Structures reviewed against your intended hedge accounting treatment before execution, so the documentation does not have to be rebuilt afterwards.
Instruments described here are indicative of the structures we work with. Availability depends on the market, the tenor and the counterparty, and every structure carries risk including the risk of loss. Nothing on this page is a recommendation or an offer.
Delivery, step by step

- 03 Trade confirmed in writingT+0
- 04 Registry transfer to your accountSettlement
- 05 Surrender or retirement evidencedCompliance
- 06 Documentation pack issuedAudit
The last step is the one most often missed. A retirement without a traceable serial number and a dated certificate is difficult to defend to an auditor.
03 · Physical supply & retirement
Into your account, against the right year.
A compliance obligation is not discharged by a position. It is discharged by units sitting in the correct registry account and surrendered against the correct period.
-
Sourcing
Allowances, certificates and credits sourced to a defined specification: registry, vintage, standard, methodology and, where relevant, project and geography.
-
Transfer and custody
Delivery into your Union Registry, UK Registry or voluntary registry account, with confirmation at each leg.
-
Retirement and claims support
Retirement executed and evidenced with serial numbers, so the claim your communications team makes is the claim your records support.
-
Quality screening
Where you buy voluntary credits, we apply a stated screening standard and tell you what we rejected and why, not only what we bought.
04 · Risk advisory & analytics
Know the number before you defend it.
Advisory work stands on its own. Several of our mandates never progress to a hedge, because the right answer that year was to change the procurement contract instead.
Exposure mapping
A consolidated view across installations, entities and contracts, showing what is exposed, in which year, under which mechanism.
Scenario & sensitivity
What a given move in the allowance, power or metal price does to EBITDA, and which line item carries it.
CBAM readiness
Supplier data collection, embedded-emissions calculation, declarant obligations and the gap between default and actual values.
Board reporting
Position, coverage ratio, mark-to-market and policy compliance in a format a non-specialist board can act on.
Next step
Start with the exposure, not the instrument.
Tell us where your obligation comes from and we will tell you what is actually hedgeable — including where it is not worth hedging.
